NOT SUCH A GREAT ENDING

At the beggining of the story the Thenardiers had everything they were economically stable, they had a nice little hotel and they were quite happy. Slowly they started to make no more money they werent financially able to have their hotel so the shut it down, Cosette was one of their few income, since her mother Fantine had to be paying them monthly so that the Thenardiers could give her food and shelter. They started to scam her mother so that they would get more money out of her. And not being able to see her daughter she was worried and would pay whatever it was "needed" for her child to be alright. "demanded fifteen francs a month, saying "that the creature was growing and eating" and threatening to send her away"(Hugo 47). This was one of the first acts of the family being degraded becuase of poverty. Sone they became to learn that they would find people who were nice and naive and they would ask for money from them. They got to a point where they would go even searching for Jean Valjean and tell him to give them money. Once he agreed he was going to go home and give them money they started wrecking the house so that Jean would give them more money. They did everything they could to get more money. Until one point in which they got completely broke .

thenardiers helping the author

THENARDIER'S
The different characteristics that the Thenardiers have are made for a purpose and that purpose is to help the author convey the central theme and tone of the novel Les Miserables. Victor Hugo uses the Thenardiers to help him set the tone for the book. In my opinion and based on what I read I can conclude that the tone we as readers percieve is a tone of suffrage and pain. Obviously being so cruel and heartless the Thenardiers help the book have this tone of suffrage. "We should have never taken you in the first place How stupid the things we do! Like mother, like daughter, the scum of the street"(Castle on a cloud). The Thenardiers being so cruel they make an enviorment in which Cosettes lives of pure horror and pain. She has never been happy since she has been living with them. Another way in which the Thenardiers help the author throughout the book becuase of the purpose this book was written to show how people would suffer before becuase they had no food or no place where to sleep or simply lived in horrible conditions. "When I told him the house, he appeared surprised and hesitated an instant, then he said: It is all the same, I will go"(Hugo 207). The Thenardiers are a poor family who struggle everyday for food and shelter but they are lazy and their business has just gone broke so they have to ask for money from everyone. This is probably the typical family in those times and Victor Hugo is trying to show the readers that this was the type of family that were always hungry for money.

THENARDIER'S -characterization-

The Thenardiers where degraded from their mind that they became so evil in order to get more money. Being degraded by poverty made this family have different characteristics: they became more greedy and cruel. They would abuse Cosette their "child", becuase since she was basically paying to live their with the whole family they would all treat her badly. "Better not let me catch you slacking Better not let you catch my eye! Ten rotten francs your mother send me what is that going to buy? Now take that pail My little 'Mademoiselle' And go and draw some water from that well!"(Castle on a cloud). They would treat so badly this child that she would even dream about places where she wouldnt have to clean. Apart from being cruel the Thenardiers were snobs they knew all the thing they had to do in order to get more money. "Quick off the bed, good for nothing! Will you never do anything? break a pane of glass!"(Hugo 208). The Thenardiers have been so degraded by poverty that they will do everything it takes so that when Jean Valjean comes to their home which looks terrible they will receive more money out of pity from Jean Valjean. The Thenardiers would even risk the chance that Jean Valjean wouldnt come and they were already tearing the house up. "You unbottom the chair"(Hugo 208). Another thing is that the whole family didnt even mind the fact that the daughter got a cut from breaking the glass, they just saw this as another chance to get more money from Jean Valjean. These actions were made from the family becuase they were so greedy that they wanted to pay for rent but they didnt want to work, they wanted everything to be done for them.

"THENARDIER'S" why were they created?

Victor Hugo created the Thenardiers to help convey both themes the ruin of women by starvation which is both mentally and physically and also the degredation of men by poverty. The Thenardier are such a great example of the degredation of men by poverty, this family would do everything they could do to get easy money. This is the part where the ruin of women by starvation comes in. They both mentally and physically abused Cosette their adopted child just for money. "There is a castle on a cloud, I like to go there in my sleep, Aren't any floors for me to sweep"(castle on a cloud). Fantine was sending them money but they never gave it to Cosette. She was treated worst than an animal in this house, her food would be under the table and sometimes she would even sleep outside. Without the Thenardiers there would have never been other themes portrayed in the book. But it was specially The degredation of men by poverty which they portray in the book. They would do anything it would take to recieve money. They would fake injuries and tear up their house in order to receive more money.

INTRODUCTION TO LES MISERABLES

LES MISERABLES a great novel based on the time period of the French Revolution. Written by Victor Hugo Les Mis talks about one man in particular called Jean Valjean and all the different people he encounters throughout his life. "All that happened in 1795. Jean Valjean was brought before the tribunals of the time for "burglary at night, in an inhabited house."(Hugo 23). Jean Valjean was just like everyone in those times he was fighting to feed his family, but unlickily he was caught and sent to the galleys. He was sent for a few years but every time he tried to escape they gave him more and more years. All of the years he spent added up were Ninteen. "Ninteen years. In October 1815, he was set at large: he had entered in 1796 for having broken a glass, and taken a loaf of bread"(Hugo 25). After leaving the galleys he has no place to go, so he starts to walk into tiny hotels but no one would let him in. In one of these hotels he meets the Thenardiers. The Thenadiers later on the book are asked to complete a huge favor for a women who wants to go to the big city to work. Her name was Fantine she had a little girl called Cosette. The Thenardier agree to take care of her but they ask for money instead. This family sees Cosette as a chance to get money. Little by little they start asking Cosettes mother for more money. Cosette is treated horribly, just like a servant. Costte is later rescued by Jean Valjean from the Thenardiers. The Thenardier portray the theme of degredation of man by poverty.

Their love begins
"We were both young when I first saw you, I closed my eyes and the flashbacks start there" ( Love Story, Taylor Swift)
This quote represents the part in the book where both Marius and Cosette have recently met each other at the park. They both had one single glance at their eyes and both fel madly in love.

Questioning their love
"My head is saying, "Fool forget him" My heart is saying "Dont let go" Hold onto the end, that what i intend to do, Im hopelessly devoted to you" (Hoplessly devoted to you, grease)
Cosette and Marius are a perfect example for this quote. It had been months since both had seen each other at the park. Cosette had began to feel depressed and started to make herself think that she didnt love Marius.

L.O.V.E
When I caught your eye, we caught up onto something, I hold on to the night, You looked me in the eye, and told me you loved me" (Forever and always, Taylor Swift)
After many months of thinking about each other. Marius starts to stalk Cosette and he finally one day has the guts to go and talk to her. It was in her garden, they kissed and talke and instantly Marius told Cosette he loved her.

main events in Cosette's life

COSETTE
1. The first main event in Cosette's life was the separation of her and her mother. Her mother had no choice but to This is the most important event becuase it determines how Cosette's life will be in the future becuase she has to live a horrible life with the family she is left with.

2. Cosette's second main event was that after being introduced to her new family, she discovers that her sisters are really mean. COSETTE'S RELATIONSHIP WITH JEAN V.
Jean Valjean has been able to create such a serene personality ever since he has been with osette. Jean feels like a father to Cosette and even admits that he has finally loved someone throughout his entire life. She has made him change more and give him a reason to live

COSETTE:
this image represents what I think cosette looks like in real life, I believe she is a sad brunette, who has no pretty clothes, who has worked for a long time and is really tired and hungry. Also a girl who is never happy and is scared of everything
